Esmerelda Appels, aged 30 has had multiple pregnancies resulting in late term (4-5month) premature births. Her first pregnancy was in 2016, the baby was born prematurely at 22 weeks. The baby survived only for an hour. The second pregnancy was in 2018, the baby was born prematurely at 24 weeks. This time the baby survived for a day.
She has had to endure this pain and trauma twice already. This is a young woman who has had to bury two little baby girls and whose soul cannot handle this continued pain. She sees this as a failure in herself.
In South Africa medical aids are very expensive and Esmerelda cannot afford to belong to an aid. As a factory worker she just doesn't earn enough to make this possible. Her previous pregnancies were all done at state run institutions and has not ended successfully. State run hospitals are underfunded and overcrowded. There is no gynaecologist nor extra assistance for high risk pregnancies and it usually takes a considerable amount of time in the waiting areas before one is assisted.
The costs involved are for the scans, the blood tests, cervix swabs, nutritional supplements, and then private hospitalisation for Esmerelda and the baby in pre-natal care if again birthed early.
How You Can Help:
I have started her with a private gynaecologist, using my own funds. However my funds are limited and I would like to be able to help her through the entire pregnancy in a private medical facility and be able to help if the baby is premature and needs to be kept in the hospital for a few months. This is completely beyond my monetary capabilities. I am hoping to raise enough money so that Esmerelda and her baby can have a fighting chance.
She is in a secure and happy long term relationship and has no other children. Please help me provide for my friend and ensure that she can experience the joy of motherhood.
