My name is Ha Phuong TRAN. I'm a Vietnamese-17-years-old girl. I am flying to Kuala Lumpur this August to participate in Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations Asia Conference (HPAIR Asia Conference) this August as a delegate. This is a very big opportunity for me. However, I have the difficulty in raising funds for my expenses.
I come from a very small town in Vietnam. People around me think that the problems of the world, of Asia, of our country or even of my province are responsibilities of politicians. Most of the adults are quite closed minded. They believe that they don't have to learn about sustainable developments, about living sustainably or about other "big" issues of the world. They believe that extracurricular activities are a way of wasting time. The students who are the same age as me think that they too young to discuss about global issues. I don't think their way of thinking is good. We are part of this world, people my age are the future of my country and of the world, so the way we think may have a huge impact on the world.
It's not easy to change the way people think, but I want to make the first step and to be an example for those around me. I really want to participate in such international and high-quality programs like HPAIR to educate myself so that I can return home and tell my classmates, my neighbors and my family that: "The world is in our own hand and anything we do can affect it in a good or a bad way. So it is our responsibility to educate ourselves and to do the right things to build a bright future for us and for our children and grandchildren." I hope to become an ambassador of change for the young generation in my town. All experiences I have from HPAIR will also be shared in our fanpage "Hộ Chiếu Xanh Đi Quanh Thế Giới"- the fanpage of Green Passport Community which is a global citizenship community for Vietnamese youth where I'm working- to support other youth from small towns and villages.
I would definitely appreciate all the help I can get! Thank you very much and God bless you.
