Liwayway Torres, 59 years old, a cancer patient who needs your help.
Liwayway is one of the members of Tanjay City's We Heal As One Team during the outbreak of the Covid19 pandemic. During the start of the outbreak, she was one of those who went through mountains and rivers to bring food to those in need. Despite the poverty she's facing, she never gave up on helping people, she never stopped not until she became the one needing it.
Last July 14, 2020, she was admitted to the hospital because of the abnormal size of her abdomen, it was massive! Her family knew that she needed paracentesis that's why they brought her to the hospital, but they were clueless about why she was having metastasis. In her first paracentesis, 7L of water was taken. After 8 days of hospital admission, Liwayway's family was shocked when they found out her final diagnosis which reads:
Even with the medicines being bought outside, the bill still jumped to a very high price.
One of her doctors told her to visit an oncologist ASAP but because the family's pocket was empty, they were not able to do so. On August 14, 2020, Liwayway was rushed again to the hospital because she couldn't breathe properly because of her big abdomen again, this time she was bought to Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH). On her paracentesis, 7.5L of water was taken. It is a known fact that cancer patients are immunocompromised and because of this, she was placed in a private room. She was admitted for 6 days which leads the bill to rise to Php 19,000. With Malasakit Center's aid, the family was only obliged to pay Php 9,000. She was discharged on August 20.
Fifteen days after her discharge, September 4, she was admitted again for paracentesis. In her third paracentesis, 8L of water was taken. She was discharged on September 10.
On September 24, she was admitted again, this time almost 9L of water was taken off. Due to the reason that it was the same diagnosis, the Malasakit and Philhealth were not able to help. She was discharged on September 30.
At this very moment, the 59-year old is already feeling discomfort because of her big bloated abdomen. Due to the rapid growth of her abdomen, the need to consult an oncologist becomes a must. But right now, her family is almost close to earning nothing. With maintaining her milk ( Prosure), they barely have a penny to spend for personal needs.
She is in need to visit an oncologist and run tests. She's also in need to have her paracentesis which she undergoes with twice a month.
