HELP PAY FOR BRAIN SURGERY TO SAVE MY BROTHER’S LIFE

MY BROTHER IS IN A COMA AND NEEDS LIFE-SAVING BRAIN SURGERY

My 24-year-old brother, Long, is currently in a coma and desperately needs brain surgery that will cost 1.8 MILLION BAHT (60,000USD). Long is a married man with a 3 year old daughter and another child on the way. He is the sole breadwinner of the family. We are part of a poor, rural tribal community and minority ethnic group who’s main income is agriculture. We cannot afford this surgery, but without it he will die.

WHAT HAPPENED:

On January 14th 2021, my brother Long suffered a serious head injury while cutting down a tree. A branch fell and hit him in the head knocking him unconscious. As of today (20/01/2021) he remains in a coma.

As the district hospital was unable to cope with Long’s injuries, he was transferred to the government provincial hospital, 5 hours away. Long underwent brain surgery, removing a piece of bone that was sticking into his brain. Five days later and Long is still comatose, feverish, with a swollen and bleeding brain. The government hospital was unequipped to help him any further.

I frantically researched what we could do to help him. As the government hospital is unable to perform the complex surgery he needs, we finally found a private hospital in Nakhon Pathom that has specialist doctors that could save my brother’s life.

I desperately believe that the private hospital is the best chance my brother has, but it is way beyond our financial means. Long has health insurance, but it only covers up to 30,000 baht (1000USD). The hospital has quoted us roughly 1.8 million baht (60,000USD) for the surgery necessary to save my brother’s life.

WITHOUT THIS SURGERY, IT IS UNLIKELY LONG WILL EVER WAKE UP.
