Help Papa Joe Go Home

This fundraiser was created on behalf of Jose Tan, a 69-year old fighting against prostate cancer. Papa had a catheter attached to his lungs, (mainly because of water entering his lungs, which was part of the cancer’s complications). One night, an accident caused the catheter to be pulled from him. He was rushed to the ER and an operation followed to fix the catheter attached to him. He was admitted in the hospital for days. The days turned to weeks, and weeks into months due to different complications on different organs. The doctors had to fight new viruses and bacteria carefully without making his cancer worse.Papa’s condition worsened and his body suffered. Tests upon tests were done, procedures were made one after the other as Papa’s body weakened. There was even a time before Christmas last year when he was comatose for 2 days. We thought it would be the end, even his daughter from the US came to the Philippines to visit him even when there is a pandemic. But Papa is a fighter, he wants to survive this, or at least be able to go back to our house and see his dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, etc. (he was an animal lover).

It was Papa’s 5th month in the hospital last February 22, 2021. Hopefully, he will be able to be at home for his 70 th birthday this coming March. Being admitted in the hospital for almost half a year meant an accumulation of bills. As a family, we were blessed enough to be able to pay the first Php3.8 million, with help of Papa’s employer and relatives. However, we have been overwhelmed with the continuous tests, procedures, and medications that were done to help Papa in this fight. Healing comes at an immensely high price. We stayed at St. Lukes because Papa’s doctors were there. We tried to transfer him to a more affordable hospital but he was not fit to be transported and due to COVID-19, it was also hard to find a hospital where we can transfer him safely. Bills kept piling up, as if a nagging aftermath of the pain we’ve witnessed and gone through.

As such, our family has decided to continue the fight at home; where our father can spend the rest of his days with family and at a more comfortable environment. To do this, we are asking for help in finally getting him out of the hospital and pay for his medicines after hospitalization. Papa will continue to fight his battle against prostate cancer. He would need regular dialysis, blood transfusions and cancer medicines after his hospitalization.

Help us bring our father home.

We would really appreciate all the help you can give us. Thank you!
