Help Our “Tatay Boy” in His Battle Against Cancer

Our “Tatay Boy” (Rolando Tolentino Sr.) used to be the active and hardworking father with a goal to provide the best not only for his family but to help others as well. He is constantly willing to do charity and is one of the most selfless people that we look up to in the family. Thus, people used to call him "Tatay ng Lahat". It is truly heartbreaking when he was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Kidney Cancer at 61 years old.

Everything happened unexpectedly and we cannot believe that in a very short span of time, our main source of strength and wisdom suddenly started losing vivacity and figure. Due to noticeable drop on his body weight and months of terribly unusual coughing, we went to (UERMMMC) University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center to check what was really causing these. It was then that we knew Tatay has nodules on both lungs. We were referred to do further tests and on May 2019, his full abdominal + chest CT Scan showed an 11.1 cm tumor on his left kidney. For this reason, we have been advised that “Tatay” needs to undergo Nephrectomy as soon as possible. The Doctors concluded that this is the main source of the nodules on his lungs and dropped two options there are. His left kidney removed (intermediate to high risk) and undergo chemotherapy after or leave everything as it is with 6-12 months more to live.

We are not losing hope that Tatay will be able to survive all these. NOT EVER. Hence, we decided to take the only chance that might save him from this dreadful condition. The risk is above our heads, but we’d rather fight for our “Tatay’s” life than watch Cancer eat the remaining life and strength out of him.

Today, 10 June 2019, at 6:00 AM (PH time) is his scheduled surgery (Nephrectomy/Removal of Kidney), and we appreciate all of the prayers and well wishes from everyone. A few years back, when "Ina" (God bless her soul) was confined to bed after having a stroke, Tatay made sure that he was always there to be the dutiful son for her. Did everything that he can, and even the impossible to show his love and care for "Ina".

He might be a strict dad, lolo, uncle, and kuya, but he is definitely one of the coolest barkada who is always there to spoil, support and hang out with the "bagets". No wonder everyone loves Tatay.
