Hello guys. We’re a group of well-wishers and animal lovers from Kiambu, Central Kenya. We came together as an initiative to help stray dogs. We have been doing all we can to feed and cater for their medical care. Things have been slowly getting out of hand as the numbers increased and raising money here has come as our last resort. We started out with 6 dogs but we’re now dealing with over 50, most of which are puppies. This has proved to be a huge challenge since we operate on a tight budget which consists chiefly of members’ donations. We are looking to get these dogs the following;
1. Spayed and neutered to avoid this in the future. We also need to vaccinate most of these dogs against parvo, rabies and distemper. If we don’t do this, they will be most likely put down by relevant authorities. The charges to cover this will be approximately 2500$, both the vaccination and spaying.
2. We need to get them regular nutritious dog meal. We’ve been giving them this about three times on a good week. This would cost about 6000$ a year if we keep up with the 3 days a week.
3. We are not planning on depending on handouts past this year. We want to build these dogs proper kennels and give them basic commands training then start adoption programs within the community. This will cost us approximately 12200$ for about a year
We’re also working on social desensitization programs to change the general community outlook on dogs. We’ve been working with the relevant governmental department in charge of veterinary services to make the project long term, countrywide and most of all, self-sustaining. We’re looking to get registered as an official organization/society and recruit more members over time.
These dogs deserve love and care. They’re normally calm and non-violent but get mistreated, mishandled and possibly killed due to common misconceptions about stray dogs. Our last option is to reach out to the world and fellow non discriminate dog lovers to help us get these hounds off the streets and get a place to call home. We'll be uploading pictures on our progress as time goes by.
Thank you all in advance.
