Our nephew Mark got Lymphoma cancer

Dear friends, family, relatives of Mark and anyone else kind enough to wish to contribute,

Mark Davis Abangan is 20 years old and lives in Philippines under average conditions. He has been feeling ill since February 2016. His mother has been taking Master Degree to help support the family and could not afford taking him to the hospital for a check-up.

On May 26th we heard his situation had worsened and sent some money for tickets so they could go to the Medical City hospital in Manila. On May 29th he was rushed to ER with suspected ruptured appendix but after thorough examinations, he has been diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. There are several types of Lymphoma and they are still doing further laboratory tests to find out which type it is. It is however clear that its malignant and that he will need chemo therapy.

As mentioned, Marks family live under average conditions, at the moment his Mother has no income, and no means of paying for his hospitalization. She already passed the aforementioned Masters exam which should hopefully soon put her in a job which means monthly income is between 10.000 - 15.000 PHP (around $250 - $400). But even with that income its barely enough for a living.

On June 4th she got the first hospital bill, PHP 190,000! She got a reduction through Philippines Charity Sweeptakes Office, and some donations from close family that brought the final amount to pay to PHP 138,000. In desperation she borrowed money to pay the bill so Mark could be released from the hospital while the laboratory tests were ongoing.

On June 6th Mark felt very ill, and was vomiting blood and was rushed to the ER again. He is to date still confined, getting treatment and awaiting further laboratory tests. His statement of account (second bill) is currently at PHP 194,000.

We are still awaiting final results and treatment plan, but some research turns out that average costs for treatment for the disease is around PHP 400,000. This brings the current minimum total up to PHP 732,000. (16,200 $). For his continued treatment, the collection goal is set to $ 7700, the current owed amount as of 11th June 2016.

Im appealing to all friends and family to help contribute so Mark can live. He is only 20 years old, so the doctors say his prognosis look good if he receives the proper treatment soon!

This appeal is written by Anna & Michael Slogedal, Mark is our nephew and we always try to support our extended family in the Philippines, but unexpected events like this is impossible to predict and we just cant afford it. The amount asked for in this campaign is the bare minimum for accrued bills for necessary treatment. We hope to reach the goal and continue to make personal donations to the best of our ability to help with any further bills for hospitalization and treatment of the cancer. Any donations exceeding the goal will go directly to his further treatment/medicination until recovery has been made. Any donations exceeding final treatments will be donated to Philippine Cancer Society or a similar non profit organization fighting cancer.
