This is my Nanay, my grandmother. She turned 80 in June. She’s one of the friendliest, chattiest people I know. You wouldn’t think she’s gone through so much by talking to her—from losing her mother when she was two, losing her father when she was 15, then losing her husband when she was 45.

Nanay has a generous and kind heart, which is why she’s called Nanay by many people. She has looked after so many people’s kids, adopted cats, dogs and chickens, and of course, raised her own children and grandchildren as well. And now, she also has two great-granddaughters to dote on.

A few days ago, Nanay was rushed to the hospital because she felt very ill and weak. She tested positive for Covid-19. The doctors are doing everything they can to make her better, from giving her Remdesivir to performing dialysis.

Unfortunately, this means that Nanay’s hospital expenses are piling up each day. Her admission fee, medicines and treatments have added up to hundreds of thousands of pesos so far. Our family has already had a few emergencies this year that have put a strain on our finances, and like many other people, our incomes have also been affected by the quarantine.

We’ve always pulled through together as a family, and Nanay has also taught us by example to help other people whenever we can, even when we didn’t have much ourselves. But this time, we can’t help Nanay on our own. Our family needs your help so we can shoulder her medical bills.

Based on the admission rates at the hospital and the treatments Nanay has been given, we estimate our final bill to be between 1.5 to 2 million pesos, even with her senior citizen’s discount and Philhealth.

We will post updates on her bills as and when we get them, but the following items are the ones that we need to pay for straight away:

Remdesivir: ₱13,000 * 10 doses = ₱130,000

Hemoperfusion: ₱60,000 per session * 4 sessions = ₱240,000

We talk to Nanay several times a day. She just wants to go home now because she’s worried about her medical bills. She doesn’t want to be a burden to the family. In fact, she just wants to get back home so she can look after us again. Please help us make her realize that she’s very important to us and not a burden at all, so that she can focus on getting better. Please help us so she can come home to us real soon.

We’ll be very grateful for any amount that you can donate. We know that times are tough for everyone right now, and appreciate all the help that you can give us.
