Campaign Story
Kia ora
In June/July 2017, te whanau o Taipuna bilingual unit of Taipa Area School are planning on taking our students and whanau, 32 in total on a haerenga (trip) to Hawaii for 10 days. The purpose of this haerenga is to expose our students to other indigenous peoples of the world and to see how our Hawaiian ohana live. We intend to share our taonga with them (our waiata, taonga takaro, reo Maori, hangarau etc) and establish a connection with nga iwi taketake o Hawaii for future visits and collaboration.
Paramount to the educational benefits is the opportunity for Taipuna tamariki to experience prominent places of the world. To have the opportunity to meet and discover other iwi taketake and to share stories, skills and experiences. It is expected that the tamariki will act as ambassadors of Taipuna and of Taipa Area School as a whole and of course - their respective hapu and iwi. As such the tamariki will abide by the Taipa Expectations at all times especially in conveying their knowledge, practice and experience of their cultural capital on the international stage.
Specific skills and taonga that have been chosen to be shared are:
