We need your help.
Back in 2016, our 72-year-old father, Ernesto Delos Reyes, was diagnosed with a chronic kidney disease. This is on top of his existing illnesses. He has diabetes, asthma, hypertension, enlarged prostate, and an enlarged heart due to his kidney.
He has been undergoing hemodialysis for nearly 3 years now, initially twice a week, but just a month ago, due to his worsening condition he now has to go through it 3 times a week. Every month nearly Php40,000 is spent for this procedure including Eposino injection, hemodialyzer, weekly maintenance medicines addressing all of his illneses.
Just last November, his creatinine shot up, and multiple complications arose. After several tests and doctor's visits with his nephrologist Dr. Mora, he was confined at Marikina Valley Hospital, from the 4th to the 11th. He suffered intense gastrointestinal pain, delirium, and memory loss. It was quite a scare. He wouldn't eat, he had to be fed through a tube. He was delirious, couldn't remember anything, and didn't recognise any of us, his three children. For a while, we thought we have totally lost him. When he was released, it was weeks of trying to assist him relearn things, and his routine. Things have only fully normalized around December.
Unfortnately, just the start of this year, he has been unwell again, and feeling very tired, and always nearly out of breath. He is suffering in pain, on his side and unable to sleep from it. Yesterday, after a visit to the Dr. Jerome Santos, the IM-Pulmonary specialist at Marikina Valley Hospital, he was advised to get an ultrasound. The result shows that due to his recurrent pneumonia (a result of compromised immune system with his CKD), his lungs have become inflamed and filled with fluid. His right lung (right sided pleural effusion) has filled with 1,589 cc of water. Due to the volume of fluid in the lungs, it can no longer be remedied by medicines. He needs to undergo Thoracentesis. This is a procedure to drain the excess fluid. It is minimally invasive, but would involve another round of confinement at the hospital, as well as post-operative tests and care.
We have already exhausted our efforts getting aid from Philippine Charity Sweepstakes (PCSO), PhilHealth (only 90 hemodialysis sessions are shouldered every year, in excess of it, as well as emergency procedures are shouldered by the family), and Office of the Vice-President. But it's not enough to cover medical expenses we incur. He is retired and does not have a medical insurance and every visit is out of our pockets. The increased hospitalizations, and medical procedures, are straining our finances, and we are feeling the weight on our shoulders.
With this, we would like to humbly ask your help and medical assistance. Any amount you share would go towards the most urgent procedure that needs to be done within the week, the Thorancentesis, and his confinement, doctors fees. Everything else will go towards additional lab tests, follow-up visits, as well as his hemodialysis and maintenance medicines. Just enough to cover it until we find our own footing and are able to rely on our own resources. Any excess will only go towards his medical needs and expenses to ensure he continues a better quality of life amidst the various illnesses he is battling.
We need your support and humbly ask for kindness. Please help us raise the amount we need. Any amount will do. Spreading this helps too.
Thank you in advance. We truly appreciate it. Bless your hearts.
