Help our dad with his hearing

Good day everybody, please read our story and help my sister, my brother and I to give our dad a better quality of life.

The backstory

Around May 2015 our dad first noticed that his hearing was getting impaired, as he gradually struggled to hear and follow a normal conversation. At this time we were still fortunate enough to have a medical aid, and after visiting the doctor, our dad got his first set of hearing aids. They are the Widex D-XP Model 110, which he still uses today.

Normally a person would get a new pair of hearing aids every two years, but due to circumstances we were not a part of any medical aid only a few months after our dad got his first hearing aids.

At the beginning of this year our dads hearing only deteriorated. After saving up and going to the doctor, the doctor told our father that he needs new hearing aids. This is because his hearing has in fact deteriorated and he now needs stronger devices, which would help him hear clearly again. The doctor was kind enough to lend those exact hearing aids to our dad for a week, to see if he felt comfortable with them and if they did the job. They did!

The technical aspect of this, is that the hearing aids he has now are 'too weak'. He needs devices that can go to 70db- the doctor recommended that the 'Octicon Open 3 Mini Rite' device is the one he needs.

After returning the devices to the doctor, we applied for loans at the bank and at medical institutions to help us get the funding to purchase these hearing aids for our dad. Unfortunately not a single one of our applications were successful.

Our dad has always offered up anything and everything to give us the best life he possibly could. At the beginning of last year, he sold his truck just so my sister and I could pay our registration fees for university, because he wants all of our dreams to come true.

He is the main source of income in our household. He works in the seurity and protection service sector and helps keep our town safe. He usually works 12 hour shifts,day after day just to provide for his family.

Please help us give back to our dad, because one of our biggest dreams is just to see him happy and full of confidence again.

The costs

The costs of these new hearing aids are R15 500 each, which brings the total to R31 000 for the devices. An extra R1 000 is needed to pay the doctor as she will be finetuning them to our dads specific needs.
