Help Our Children Hear

We write to seek assistance for our children (brother and sister), Lilly, aged 7 years and Balian 3 year old, who have profound (total) hearing loss in both ears at birth.

In the Philippines, insurance does not cover the operation needed for them to be able to hear.

It took us awhile to discover Lilly's condition, as the newborn hearing test was not given to her when she was born in 2014. When we noticed the delay in her speech, and after finding the correct medical specialists and examinations (which took some time), we were able to find out she was unable to hear, which explains her inability to speak. Currently, she is in school (Grade 2) and is learning sign language. Aside from her inability for speech, she is a normal bubbly 7 year old as confirmed by a recent visit to her developmental psychologist.

Balian was born in May 2018 and immediately we knew after his newborn hearing test that there was something wrong with his hearing. The ABR exam confirmed our worst fears. He is also has profound hearing loss in both ears.

It pains my heart to see my children grow up not being able to talk and hear the wonderful sounds the world has to offer. Sadly, the cochlear implant procedure that both children need are not covered by insurance where they are, and it is a surmountable amount.

We would greatly appreciate your financial help to Lilly and Balian's operation. All funds will go directly to their cochlear implant procedure, post surgical care, rehabilitation and speech therapy.
