Our beautiful daughter Fausta is two and a half, and has recently been diagnosed with autism, and as many children with autism, has extreme difficulty communicating. She does speak a bit however, but only through extreme repetition (she basically only communicates via repeating songs she likes). At the moment she doesn’t respond to her name, avoids eye contact completely and cannot handle even the slightest change of routine.

Fausta is a very bright child, but her condition makes her close in on herself, and she frequently “disappears” into her own world. She also has strong sensory issues, which manifests itself in strong facial grimaces, that is causes by an oversensitivity to pretty much any stimuli, as well as no reaction to physical pain whatsoever (in case of falls for example).

It is heartbreaking to see our gorgeous little girl clearly suffer, as she every day becomes more and more frustrated as she cannot communicate her feelings even remotely. We both know from her frustration, that Fausta desperately wants something from us (affection, love or even something as simple as asking for water). She just doesn’t know how, and it is breaking our hearts.

The good news is that there are treatment options available here in Lima, and Fausta is going to need plenty in the coming months and years. The bad news is, that it is incredibly expensive, and although we have insurance, this will not even cover a third of this. We have previously both worked, but in the light of the new situation, I have had to dedicate my time to looking after our daughter. This has put a financial strain on our little family, and we quite frankly need help to pull through.

There is a decent chance that Fausta will be able to live an almost normal life, if given the right treatment in time. This means a special nursery, play therapy, intense occupational therapy, language therapy and frequent trips to a neurologist.

The clock is ticking for Fausta, because early treatment is of so vital importance, and any help – big or small – will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much in advance
