Help our Mom

Hello friends.

Our very outgoing, loving, caring and yes we dare say hero of a mother who always thinks to put others before herself, collapsed with the most excruciating pain on August 22nd.

She was rushed to the emergency room at which point the doctor said, “We operate or she dies!”As you can only imagine, what at shock.They found that she had a number of abscesses on her colon, the largest had burst that morning and perforated the colon.

It was also further found that a number of smaller ones must have burst during the preceding weeks which collectively caused her body to shut down going into septic shock.

So ensued a three hour laparotomy for diverticulitis perforation operation and due to irreversible damage, a colostomy.Mom unfortunately went into respiratory and renal failure in addition to the septic shock, once stabilized it was straight to ICU where she spent the next 7 days attached to a ventilator as well as numerous other machines which kept her alive.

Gratefully, if there is one thing we can say of our mother it is that she is a fighter and she made it through her time in ICU, was then miraculously moved to High Care for a further eight days and by the grace of God has only now left the hospital with needless to say a very guarded continuing care prognosis.

The ordeal has been similar to a never ending horror movie which apart from the grace of having our mother alive and with us today, doesn’t end as continuing hospital and doctor’s bills readily flow in, not to mention the now added expense of the very necessary and super pricy colostomy bags, in need of replacement every 3 to 5 days.

Our mother’s only income is the small after-care centre, which due to her illness and all but existent immune system, doctors have advised she not have any contact with minors as it inevitably would compromise her health further. As any fellow parent out there knows, our kids always come home with the sniffles or some variation of a cold. We therefore had to appoint someone to assist in the running of the after-care which unfortunately utilizes all funds from that source.

We are truly grateful to the Lord for bringing our mother through this ordeal and now realize that it is still a long road ahead.We therefore appeal to anyone who would be so kind in helping mom in anyway, every little bit counts! May you find it in your hearts to help and please know that our hearts are bursting with a never ending stream of gratitude.
