Please Help Opal Sangnark

Dear Friends and Family,

Opal Sangnark needs your help. For the past month her mother has been sick and constantly vomiting, unable to keep her food down. The hospital in Ayutthaya where she has insurance coverage diagnosed her with severe acid reflux but the medication they prescribed had no effect. When she returned to Pattaya, she was taken to a local hospital that once again diagnosed her vomiting as a digestive problem and again the medication had no effect. By last week, her mother who is usually a little plump had lost a lot of weight and was beginning to look rather sickly and emaciated.

Things reached a critical point when she became incoherent last Wednesday and by nightfall was unable to recognize her own daughter. Opal decided to take her mother to the Bangkok Pattaya Hospital where she knew they would be able to do something to help her mother.

After a quick blood test, they discovered that her mother’s blood sugar was through the roof. Normal blood glucose is between 70-120 mg/dL (milligrams per deciliter) but her mother’s was over 1000 mg. The sugar levels in her blood were so high that her brain had stopped functioning normally and she was in a near fatal condition. Her mother was on the verge of a diabetic coma. The two previous hospitals failed to diagnose her as a Type II diabetic.

The good news is that her mother’s blood glucose has returned to a normal level but she may have suffered some permanent brain damage; more tests will follow. Had she been diagnosed correctly the first time, things would not have reached this dangerous and near fatal point. Also, the physical and financial damage would have been far less.

Opal’s mother was in the hospital for 3 nights. Bangkok Pattaya Hospital is an excellent hospital but it is not cheap; the total bill was 261,084 thai baht or roughly 8,170 USD. Thankfully, between donations, the money she borrowed, her mother’s money and her own, she was able to pay for the hospital stay. Opal’s mother is now at home and for the time being she is out of harm's way and this is what matters most.

Without your help Opal will be stuck in debt for a very long time. When the goal was set for this fundraising page, we didn’t expect the final hospital bill to be so high. The hospital has been payed but Opal is in massive debt so we've decided to extend the campaign, hoping that we might be able to raise some more funds. If there is anyone willing to do even a tiny bit, it will be a huge help for Opal and her mother. Please help if you can. All the best from Opal and her family in 2019 and remember to stay healthy!
