Rea is not only a very hardworking mom (and the primary income earner in their household), she’s also a caring wife and a loving mother who doted on her two children.

When she was in Qatar, she would often call up her family because she wanted to be there for them ALWAYS, no matter the distance.

Never mind that she was drained from work each day, she would never let that get in the way of bonding with her family. That’s just the kind of woman Rea is.

After the pandemic struck (she was then in the Philippines), she could not return abroad to continue supporting her family, so they found themselves in a financially shaky situation.

But this never stopped them from fighting on. Like many of us, this family braved through the challenge to make ends meet with whatever they could earn.

Except last May, Rea was diagnosed with colon cancer (which we later found was already at Stage 3).

This news was devastating to her family, especially to her children. They could not imagine life without their mom, so Rea does her best to look brave and to reassure them that she’ll be fine, even though pain is ripping through her body and she deeply dreads the possibility of never making it back home to them again.

I am Rea’s brother-in-law (she and my wife are sisters), and my name is Ronald Cagape.

I am appealing to you for help on behalf of Rea and her family because her doctors insisted that she needed to undergo an immediate surgery. They said that the large tumor that was blocking her colon was fatal and that the cancer was aggressive.

But by some stroke of luck, this hasn’t yet spread to her liver, so according to them, there is still hope… but only if removed ASAP.

Unfortunately, the cost of her surgery was something we couldn’t afford or raise at such short notice.

Her husband carves gravestones for a living and raises a few pigs in their backyard, but what he earns is far from enough to pay for her hospital expenses.

We, her relatives, have pooled together money out of our pockets and approached our other relatives for help... but since they’ve also just recently aided a tito of Rea’s who was also gravely ill, they’ve already exhausted their resources.

All of the money we have raised for now - along with her husband’s income - fell way below what the hospital is billing us for, so now, we are turning to people - to you - for help.

If you can support us with whatever small amount you can afford to share, even if it’s spare change, we will all be immensely grateful.

I know that times have been hard for many of us and that we are complete strangers to you, but if you can still find it in your heart to help, this would mean EVERYTHING to us.

Please know that no amount is too small.

Every single peso you put in moves us towards being able to pay for her surgery and supporting her family while she is undergoing further treatment.

We are praying hard for help, and if by some chance, this help comes through you, we won’t be able to thank you enough for your kindness.
