A good diet is essential for any animal. My name is Andrea, I have several rescued dogs in my care and I try to help as many homeless dogs as possible, whose lives depend primarily on receiving food and potable water, which are scarce inside the humanitarian crisis of Venezuela. The kindness, empathy and goodwill of people in countries with better economy builds a lifeboat for the hungry mouths in this country, they have worked miracles within the lives of many animals and they allow me to continue obtaining what they need to survive.
Food being the most important basis when it comes to ensuring healthy aging in dogs, it was my obligation to devise a strategy to meet their biological needs in an affordable way within our collapsed economy. If they develop a strong immune system and have good hematological values, they will be better able to stay healthy for extended periods of time, it is a smart way to prevent infections, parasites, diseases; it's one of the steps to take to fight against the prevalence of opportunistic epidemics that torment homeless dogs.
I found a person whose job is to buy products (prior order) in Colombia and deliver them to customers in Venezuela, the purchase and transport of packages of dry dog food (30kg) has a cost of $80 per package and he doesn't accept orders for less than two packages. Even with the high price, it is a solution to the scarcity and inflation suffered within Venezuela. After the payment is made, the delivery of the packages will be done within the next three to four days. With $320 it would be possible to buy four packages of dry dog food, which provides the most durable basis for a constant diet that makes them feel satiated. Our current situation is so critical that the acquisition of only those bags alone represents a miracle, however, it would not be enough to keep dogs healthy because the dry dog food consists mostly of carbohydrates, being that dogs also need fat and protein.
That is why the goal of this fundraiser is not only to be able to acquire bags of dry dog food, but also folic acid tablets, vitamin, levacam, cod oil, rice, bananas, egg cartons, chicken and meat. My experience as a rescuer has shown me that these ingredients make a big difference within the body of malnourished, sick or growing dogs. Even when items such as eggs, chicken and meat are scarce, they are easier to obtain than dry dog food, although always with prices affected by the current inflation.
The objective is to be able to feed a maximum of two hundred dogs, providing responsible food to the dog population that's suffering from street situation is the pillar from which the change must be born. A well-fed dog not only looks happy and healthy, but has a strengthened organism capable of overcoming various diseases without major problems. This would help decrease the number of dogs that die of diseases that are aggravated by anemic processes. I also have the theory that part of the civilian population would be less willing to mistreat a dog whose appearance is healthy and beautiful, perhaps feeding would also help build an empathic bridge between Venezuelan society and street dogs.
