TheMy son needs help in fighting a rare brain tumour Teodoras will be two years old soon after Christmas. He is a boy just like all other boys: he likes playing with toy cars, romping about with his three-year old sister and, having switched off the light, scaring his Mum and Dad with monsters. He also likes lollypops and children’s songs. So he is just like other boys, except... He may never drive a real car and we may never know what kind of music he will listen to when he is sixteen or what he will become when he grows up. A fortnight ago doctors discovered a large tumour in Teodoras’s head. So large that they cannot understand how the kid can move, speak or play and look like all other kids. But he can. This is Teodoras’s miracle. We want to give him another miracle, an opportunity to grow up. The miracle actually lies in science, in state-of-the-art treatment methods applied in France, Switzerland or the USA. If treated with conventional methods in Lithuania, where there have been only a few registered cases of this type of brain cancer (pilomyxoid astrocytoma), he could live to be four at best. A biopsy of this rare tumour has already been sent to the Gustave Roussy Cancer Institute, France, where in cases like this individual chemotherapy and immunotherapy are applied that would give Teodoras a real chance not only to get well but to grow up too. We are still waiting for a reply from the Institute and a specific treatment plan but we already know that the cost of stage 1 of the treatment alone can exceed €150,000, whereas the entire treatment can cost as much as several hundred thousand. Therefore we can only rely on other people’s help. We his family, Mum, Dad and sister, believe that the distance and a meagre bank account will not prevent from saving our boy. Therefore we will appreciate every Euro, every instance of sharing of this message and every supportive comment. We believe in people’s kindness, science and miracle.
