Campaign Story
My three-year-old son has been having constant battle with gastrointestinal infections for the past year or so. Clinics and hospitals have never been a strange place for our family. Few weeks prior to his admission at a hospital in our province, we’ve noticed multiple bruises on his body which we thought were just from minor injuries. It wasn’t until he was bitten by a cat when we brought him to the clinic for a check up. They found out that his blood counts were out of whack when the doctor ordered a CBC. His platelet count was 6-16 times lower than normal, which could mean he may bleed out to death if it gets dangerously low. His WBC was almost zero, which means he couldn’t fight infections like normal people do and his hemoglobin was critically low.
The doctor did a bone marrow biopsy, an invasive procedure where he had to drill through his pelvic bone to get a sample of his bone marrow for biopsy. Result came back with Acute myelogenous leukemia. AML is a quickly progressing leukemia in which too many abnormal cells form in the bone marrow crowding healthy blood cells. He is now getting treatment at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center. Without treatment, he was given 3-6 months to live. A few days ago, he has received two bags of chemo which have caused his counts to drop even lower.
Watching him on the hospital bed with so much pain and suffering is almost unbearable. As a parent, I dying inside but I have to remain strong for my son. We do not have medical insurance and I do not have a fixed income.
I am pleading for your generosity. I am not certain that we will be able to afford his next bag of chemo, blood product, or medication that he needs. Any donation will help us get to our goal of successful chemotherapy, radiation and bone marrow transplant. We also need all the prayers we can get.
Thank you for your kindness!
