Good day, everyone! My mother, Concordia Hanopol, from Ormoc City, Philippines -- is the reason why I'm here. She has a malignant ovarian cancer- stage 4 with liver and peritoneal metastasis. Last December 23, 2019, she traveled through a bus to reach Manila from Leyte. She was supposed to go there for Christmas and New Year (which was also her birthday) celebration with our relatives in Manila. Two days after she arrived, she felt an unusual pain in her whole abdomen. She can hardly get up by her own and she was vomiting. As the pain is becoming intolerable for her, we brought her to a doctor. We did all kinds of necessary tests like TVS (Trans-vaginal ultrasound), whole abdomen ultrasound and etc. Right after all that, we learned about her cancer.
My mother didn’t enjoy her birthday during New Years eve since she was bedridden that time. The pain is getting worse day by day. She wasn't able to get up without someone helping her. She couldn't eat properly because when she does, it would just increase the stomach pain causing her to throw up. Humans as we are, I and the whole family were in denial so we went to another doctor for second opinion, but sad to say, results were the same. It's Cancer- stage 4.
Days after, we went to Cebu City to do some more tests. She had CA125, CT scan, Ultra-sonography and Chest X-RAY. Then the doctor reconfirmed that it is indeed stage 4 ovarian cancer. We were given chemotherapy as an option. The doctor clearly said that it isn't something to cure cancer, only a therapy to prolong her life. My mom is 66 years old, her body might not be able to handle to side effects of chemo.
Bills are piling up and she is in pain day by day. We provided her all the pain relievers and maintained medicines that our doctor prescribed, but nothing seems to work well. Just weeks ago, we noticed that her stomach is getting bigger. We brought her again to the hospital and we were informed that it's because her stomach is already filled with water and that she had an acute pneumonia infection. We had her admitted for proper treatment, and we were discharge 2 days after.
After learning that her stomach is filled with water, we were more worried. She can't eat well because it would hurt her stomach, she was advised to lessen fluid intake as well because the more water that is in her stomach, the harder it is for her to breathe. We were given the option to take off the water from her body. However, per session costs PHP 20,000 and it's going to be a weekly session. As much as we want to make her life comfortable, we just don't have enough financial means to do it. We are giving her a healthy diet and we try to give her all the food she craves for even if it's really hard for her to eat. We just want her to feel better.
We don’t have enough fund to support her as I don’t have work just yet, my brother and my dad are egg vendors. I am taking care of my mom alongside my 1 year old daughter
My mother is the best mother anyone can have and everyone who knows her can justify that. At first, we were asking why does it have to be her. She is the most kind-hearted person I know. She sees to it the she provides the best for her loved ones even if our living status is not in the high. We would like to think that there is a reason for everything and that God is in control. My mom is a huge advocate for the church. She is a strong devotee and she is serving the church for the most of her life. We know God will provide as God heals.
I am writing all these to knock on your kind hearts. Please help us to fund for my mom's healing. For her not to suffer. For her to live longer. For herself and for all that love her. We are doing our best to provide her with everything she needs and to continue with her medication. However, we are not capable of spending for her weekly session.
Day by day, the water is filling her stomach making it hard for her to eat, drink and worse, breathe. We are humbly asking for your help to aid her treatment so she can still live a normal life. We are praying for miracles as we know God opens the door for those who knock.
Please help us get funding for my mom. We would appreciate all your help as any amount would do. Big or small, it would be a huge help. Also, please include my mom's healing in all your prayers. Please include my mom in your prayers and all people who are going through the same.
Thank you all for your help and we do appreciate all your prayers!
