My story is long, so please bear with me and I hope you take the time to read.
A mother is considered to be the light of the family home. She is willing to sacrifice even her own health just to ensure that her children live a comfortable life. She carries the burden upon herself without complaint.
The same can be said to my mother, MILAGROS Q. BOTOR. She was born in Manila, but studied, worked, and established a family life here in Naga City.
She is a hardworking and loving mom and would always do anything just to support me and my sister for our everyday needs in school and at home. She personally does all the chores and maintenance of the house.
In her career, my mother worked in the government tirelessly for more than 35 years. Over those years, she managed to spend her average income over family needs.
In 2014, she availed early retirement package at the age of 58. She wants to enjoy life after serving the government, and although she misses working, she would not miss this opportunity. She now has more time to baby sit her three (3) adorable grandchildren and to cuddle her fur baby.
Unfortunately, just a few months from retirement, my mother met an accident. While cleaning the wall fan, she missed her step in the monobloc chair and fell landing her buttocks first. She thought the pain is just ordinary, so she went to see a masseur hoping that the pain would be treated. She had a hard time walking and getting up. Then that was the time we decided to get her checked by an orthopedic surgeon, who then ordered for an x-ray. The x-ray showed that she fractured her left hip and that she needed to undergo a “Partial Left Hip Replacement”.
It is a surgical procedure used to replace half of the hip joint. It involves replacing the ball of the femur that has worn from a serious fracture involving the ball of the hip joint.
She underwent the said procedure and it was successful. However, because of that surgery, almost all of the money she got from retirement was consumed. It does not matter as long as my mother gets better and be able to do all her ADLs (activities of daily living) again. We have also been informed by the orthopedic surgeon that the partial hip replacement is not permanent and it will wear out over time depending on use and patient’s health.
Around December 2018, she started feeling pain and it seems like the implant is moving inside. She had an x-ray and the doctor explained to us that the metal implant on her left hip and cement are perfectly intact. But there may have been a sign that joint space is deteriorating and the bone where the implant is attached loosened probably because of overuse.
In June 2019, we returned for an x-ray as the pain still persists. He gave us reasons for the existence of pain and the remedy is to do a total hip replacement that will cost around P450,000. It was so alarming. We did not expect the replacement to happen this soon and our fund is not yet enough to push through with the operation.
In a total hip replacement (medically called as total hip arthroplasty), the damaged bone and cartilage is removed and replaced with prosthetic components. The damaged femoral head is removed and replaced with a metal stem that is placed into the hollow center of the femur.
My mother already used her retirement package in the last surgery, and she has little savings left and even if I and my sister offer our savings, it would still not be enough to come up with the whole amount.
With this I am knocking at your kind hearts to please help me raise a fund for the needed operation. I could not see my mother suffer in discomfort and pain, and possibly not be able to walk again while I do nothing. I would do everything to bring back the smile on her face and move free of pain and worries. Any amount that you are willing to give or donate to make my mother’s surgery possible soon will be highly appreciated by me and my family.
Our Lord Almighty will return the blessings to you tenfold.
