My mother’s fight against Brain Tumor

Hello everyone!

A child would do anything and everything for her mom.

I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now. The challenges that we encounter in our everyday lives makes us braver and believe that faith can move mountains.

Our story is not different from others who are also struggling. But our story, I must say, taught me that being tough is not enough, it’s the responsiblity as the eldest child that still challenges me at the moment to save my mother.

Mom was diagnosed with Stage 3A Breast Cancer last July 2020 (yes, pandemic). Series of treatments were done (8 cycles of chemotherapy, radiation therapy for 30 days — everday, CT planning, other tests related to it). Knowing that she wants to still fulfill her mission and still want to hell other people, she fought on that battle. She was declared cancer free last year. But… it didn’t end there…

On the first week of March, we noticed that she became weak. Left part of her body to be specific. Her hearing.. her speaking.. the left part of her body became weak. She also experienced headaches more often. We were alarmed, and the first rule out of doctors were mild stroke but to be sure of what had happened, the doctor ordered for a CT SCAN.. and that’s when we found out that the cancer cells metastasis to the brain. They found a tumor (2 cm) on the right side of the brain.

Right now… I can’t still process what’s happening.
Given that last 2020 we just experience the situation that most of us cannot fully accept.

Savings and emergency funds were exhausted. To be honest we had relatives who have a kind heart who helped us get through the radiation therapy and chemotherapy sessions. God is good :)

But honestly, right now, even though I am working, I know these funds are not enough for the procedure which will happen for my mom.

They actually gave us three options:

1. 10 cycles of radiation therapy (everyday for 10 days) - 2,500Php per cycle

2. Stereotatic Radiosurgery — 300,000Php

3. Surgery — 500,000Php

We don’t have the funds to choose the third option.

So what happened was, for us to make sure that the tumor won’t spread or become larger, the first option was done week after we knew that mom has the tumor (2 weeks ago). God is good, she survived the 10 day cycle. Our next step is, since we don’t have the funds yet, we (together with my aunt) are asking for help so mom can undergo on the second option. We know that the best is the third but having said that we don’t have the funds… we will stick with the second option and more prayers that hopefully, if the second option will be done, the tumor will be gone.

We are targeting to ask for help and do what we best can after the Holy Week (April 14-15, 2022) since the time is ticking and I know mom still wants to help others once she’s healed. We can see she’s fighting. We can see her bravery everyday despite of what’s happening. I know my father is also stressed out already because of this situation (our source of income aside from my work is a small eatery in our barangay and because of the bills and funds we need, the income we get from the eatery is also not enough).
