Hi!

This is Gwen,

I am Sheila Navarro's daughter, 3rd among my six siblings, sorry I say 4th among my seven siblings (including my deceased brother), born and raised in Toledo City, Cebu where my mom Sheila also grew up in.

After a number of doctor's appointment and series of laboratory test since November 15, 2022, our dear mom Sheila is diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer. Her oncology advised us of her treatment protocol where she needs to undergo 3 rounds of chemotheraphy, followed with surgery, then another rounds of chemotheraphy.

I and my other 3 siblings are currently employed, however, our income is not enough to sustain her treatment expenses. So, we are here, knocking your kind hearts to help my family get through these difficult times, and give my mom a chance to be able to receive the treatment that she needs.

I can vividly remember, she tells us stories about how hard life was and how we should always stand strong and find the good in every situation. Now that I am also a mother, only now that I understood the gravity of the things she has gone through in raising us. Our eldest brother Jee Roy died from bronchitis as a child, with this experience alone I cannot fathom the pain and heartache she has gone through from this experience.

2 years later my brother Jeff needed surgery to clear his brain of the blood clots that formed, this later affected his daily life and now lives as a person with disability.

Amongst all these my brother Jerry has already been diagnosed as special needs child.

But yet through all of these she was able to find odd jobs to help my father’s income in supporting the family.

I was observing these events as a child and never did I feel that something was wrong. With my mother’s smile on her face and strong grip on my hand she would guide the 6 of us through downtown as she would go do her job.

As we grew older maybe at some point she thought to herself that her job as a mother was done and completed but then more people needed her love and care.

My grandmother Lilia got ill and was bed ridden for two years, she took care of my grandmother as if she was her own mother. For two straight years morning until evening she was there until she passed away.

While she took care of my grandmother, she was also helping me in taking care of my daughter Daizy. I was a single mother and I needed to find work to support my child. I would go to work and leave Daizy with her. She took care of her as her own daughter as I got assigned to a different town for work. I wasn’t able to visit much but I knew that my daughter was safe and loved.

As years went by and things settled down it was always our haven of peace visiting my mom.

But recently she has been complaining with pains in her abdomen area. When we got it checked, she has been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer Stage 3.

Even though she knew what was about to happen, she stayed strong and full of faith, even comforting her family that everything will be well.

This is the true meaning of a mother’s love. A love that even the jaws of death has no hold. A love that will continue to be felt and remembered by everyone.

I appeal to all mothers, sons and daughters of mothers to help my mom Sheila to be able to receive the necessary treatment that she needs.

We don’t expect much, we just want to extend her life, so that we can give back a small portion of the endless well of love she has given everyone.
