Campaign Story
It was in the month of October 2019 where my my Mom started feeling weak. It was disturbing because for those who know my Mom, she is not one who can keep still. She is the type of person who has to keep on moving and would always keep herself busy. But during this time, she would get tired very easily and didn't have that much appetite to eat. The initial diagnosis was that my Mom had severe anemia and we were advised that she had to get a blood transfusion. In December, she was confined in Asian Hospital and several blood transfusions were done. During her confinement, other tests were also done which included a bone marrow procedure and it was here where it was discovered that my Mom has Acute Leukemia.
My Mom had her first cycle of chemotherapy in January of this year and her second cycle last March. In both sessions, my Mom had to be confined and on her second cycle she was in the hospital for more than 2 weeks. The side effects of the chemo resulted to a drop in my Mom's platelet and her WBC. Because of this, she had to go through daily blood transfusions to bring up her numbers. Thankfully despite the drop in her blood counts, my Mom was still up and about and didn't develop any fever.
The third chemo cycle was supposedly scheduled last April but due to Covid, the doctor advised that she can just get blood transfusions done first until everything is "safer" for my Mom to proceed with her chemo and at that time our family was also still trying to raise funds. Since then, Mom has been going through blood transfusions every 2 weeks and now has progressed to every 7 to 10 days.
In August, the doctor of my Mom ran another test and the results showed that due to the frequency of the blood transfusion, my Mom's blood developed an Antigen which causes the drop of her Hemoglobin and RBC. Because of this Antigen, it is not easy to find a compatible unit of blood that will be used for her transfusion which will make her chemo sessions even more complicated.
In this battle of my Mom with Leukemia, the options that were given to our family are as follows:
1) We can just continue with blood transfusion but this can only go so far or do so much for Mom.
2) To undergo another round of chemotherapy.
But with this third cycle, we were told that it will be more toxic compared to the second cycle in the sense that Mom may be confined a lot longer. This is due to Mom's age and the side effects wherein her Platelet, Hemoglobin, WBC and RBC will take longer to recover. Given this, she will need to go through blood transfusions everyday until her blood counts goes back to the desired levels.
It's been quite a journey for our family. Recently lost my sister to Breast CA and at the same time fighting this battle with my Mom. We will do anything for her and our prayer is for our Mom to be given more time to live her life and to be with her loved ones.
This is the reason why I, together with the rest of my family (again) are humbly knocking on your generous hearts.
Any amount will be very much appreciated and will definitely go a long way. Alternately, you may deposit your support to my account:

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
