Hi!
My name is Tamás Ugróczky and my kid is an amateur cyclist! We live in Hungary, near the Austrian-Hungarian border. There are a lot of amazing mountains here. He is young but he is really into endurance cycling. That is the reason why I need your help!
He started taking on bigger and bigger challenges and also started to take part in more races. His bike is a 2008 26" aluminium MTB. This is not a bad bike, but for the demanding cross-country races and challenges he is taking part in, it's heavy, slow and unefficient. As endurance races are usually for people who are older than him, this is a pretty big disadvantage.
The thing is that we want to buy a modern mountain bike for him, but we just don't have the money for that right now. Also because he has a brother and a sister, so buying something expensive only for him wouldn't be really fair.
With his current bike he has already done some pretty amazing feats. He did a half Everesting at the end of last summer and is planning to do a complete Everesting this weekend. It's a challenge where you have to ride (or run) up and down on a hill until you accumulate a total of 8848m elevation gain and you have 24 hours for it. He has also done more extreme distance rides. In this year he is planning a Hungarian challenge named DZD300 which is 300 kilometers long with over 6000 meters of elevation gain entirely off-road. In this year he is also entering the biggest race of his life. It's the Salzkammergut Trophy Marathon. It's known as one of the hardest cross-country race in Europe You have 16 hours to complete a 210 kilometer off-road route with 7100 meters of total elevation. He is one of the youngest participants and he is pretty underbiked.
He is working very hard to have a chance, but also he has his finals exams coming up this year and I don't want him to stop learning, because in the long run that's really important.
That is the reason why I want to help him out as much as I can. A good bike and motivation is probably the most I can do for him.
I hope you can help!
