Would you help my Kenyan friend Elizabeth become a commercial pilot?

Elizabeth is 20 and Kenyan. She lives with her mother in a beautiful small village called Msambweni on the southern end of the Kenya coastline. My wife and I became friends with the family while spending time on holiday in the area, and as a commercial pilot myself I was delighted to hear that Elizabeth had been given enough money, by an extremely generous benefactor, to train to become a private pilot. She passed her General Flying Test in early December 2020 and is waiting for her shiny new licence to arrive. The problem is now that without funds she can't do anything with it, and her dream is to become one of Kenya's very few female commercial pilots.

The average daily wage in Msambweni is in the order of KES 1000 (about £7), and this, as you can guess, isn't nearly enough to pay for commercial flight training, which in Kenya costs even more than it does in the UK. There is a course in Poland that costs about £15000 for CPL/IR, which is amazing value, and the other option is to become an instructor, but there are a few technical problems with that route that I won't bore you with (unless you ask!).

Flying training for commercial licences requires the completion of various courses and also the gaining of experience. If enough money is raised it'll be used to fund a training course, but if not it will be used by Elizabeth to maintain flying currency and gain experience while she works towards her commercial licence.

Please don't be put off by the fact that the first three donations have been large. Any amount would be greatly appreciated, no matter how small. Any donations will be collected by me in the UK and sent to her because this site doesn't accept money in Kenyan Shillings. If you can help that would be wonderful. Thank you.

STOP PRESS: The licence has arrived! I've posted a picture of it (with Elizabeth's address redacted).

Update posted by Nicholas Gribble at 04:52 pm

Elizabeth sent me a photo of her licence today, so I've added it to the site. Now I just need to nip to Kenya so that she can take me for a flight around Nairobi!
