My grandmother was admitted to hospital on the 30 October 2019. On 31 October 2019 she was transferred to ICU till date. She had a fever for a start which turned out to be influenza A, after being admitted to the hospital we found out there were several virus attack including pneumonia. Due to her lungs having inflammation, it pressurized her heart. Also, due to the heavy dosage of different types of antibiotics, it influenced her kidney causing her to go through a 24/7 dialysis. And because of her lungs problem she was put on respirator, a tube that has to go through her mouth into her windpipe and to the lungs. She also had to go through an operation to puncture a hole at the center of collarbone for the input of oxygen and suction to get rid of the phlegm in her lungs. She has also been going through repeated blood test, brain and heart scan. As of 20 November 2019 the bill was $250k (excluding doctor fee), that's an estimated of $11-12k per day. As of today it has been 27 days since she has been admitted into the hospital which the bills are estimated to be close to $300k and we are not sure when she will be discharged yet as she is still fighting the battle so the bills we are expecting could go as close as $500k (excluding doctors fee).
We currently have 6 doctors looking after my grandmother, each doctor specializes in different areas
- The heart
- The kidney
- Infection disease
- Brain specialist
Each doctor costs $400 a day we have 6 doctors so that is $2.4k per day just for doctors and total bill for hospital and doctor fees each day would be $14k
To date, my family have exhausted our cash and savings to settle my grandmother's medical fees which we find it hard to sustain. We had $15k deducted from my grandmother's medisave but it still isn't enough. My dad and relatives are trying to get loans from friends but few hundred thousand isn't easy to come by and thus we will appreciate any amount of donations from you guys to help us out.
I understand many will question why don't we go to a government hospital instead, my grandmother had a bad experience with the government hospital as she was treated badly the previous time she was in a government hospital. They had a nurse to pin her down and had her arms tied up while another nurse had her wrist cut with a knife at the arteries. This procedure was done in the middle of the night when no family members were around and the hospital did not contact my family either to inform or ask for consent before doing so. Another issue was that the nurse gave medicines that were meant to put in through the anus and asked my grandmother to eat them instead. Thankfully my grandmother felt something was not right as the pills were extremely big and impossible to be swallowed and did not take them. The nurses were very rough towards my grandmother as well causing bruises on her. They didnt seem to understand that she was an elderly and shouldn't be handled so roughly. Ever since that experience my grandmother has been traumatized and unwilling to go to a government hospital to get any treatment. Also the current hospital we are at has specialist doctor that has been seeing my grandmother for her heart and lungs for over 10 years or more and they know my grandmother's condition best. And the government hospital doesnt have the medicine that my grandmother needed. Previously when the specialist prescribed the medcine for my grandmother's lungs and asked the government hospital to give it to my grandmother they claimed they do not have such medicines. Thus, I hope you guys understand that these are the reasons why we chose a private hospital instead.
Please do help my family out, we will appreciate it a lot.
