Hello everyone reading this article, My name is Byoona Moses from Fort Portal City located in Western part of Uganda (East Africa)
BRIEF ABOUT FORT PORTAL
this place was named "Fort Portal" after a british diplomat "Sir Gerrald Portal" when he visited it way back in time, he was amazed by the fertile soils and good climate he found in this place.
Of recent, Uganda named this place "Fort Portal Tourism City" and actually the only Tourism city in the country because the place has beautiful natural physical features like mountains, Hills, lakes, game parks, forests and not forgetting good agricultural and farming soils and climate.
BACK TO MY POINT
I'm a bee keeper and passionate about my project, i started this bee keeping project in 2015 after seeing people harvesting honey on TV, from that day i developed an interest of also starting bee keeping project.
Well, as you know any business can be challenging especially when the resources (funds) are little, thats why for sure i'm on this page.
But as they always say "what doesn't kill you always makes you stronger" thats me exactly, despite the challenges, i'm able to make a step everyday because as of March 2020, i managed to harvest 240 kgs of honey from the few hives i have now, even if the market was not good that time because of corona virus pandemic which had brought alot of fear in different businesses but on my side, to harvest that honey was a smile and a great milestone because i had never harvested that kgs of honey since i started the project. It was in August 2019 when i harvested 178 kgs.
The honey market locally is improving slowly compared to 2016-2017 season when i started to slowly produce honey.
MY GOAL AND TARGET
once my project expands/grows, i have a plan of starting to export honey on international market.
since i have big space/land i have a future plan of building tourism site around my project so that people can come all over to see and learn more about my project of course i know i must start slowly but steadly.
YOUR HELP NOW
one by one makes a bundle, i cannot archieve my future goal and target before i increase bee and honey production thats why now I want to raise $900 so that i can buy more modern "top bar" bee hives to add in the house i built and i also want to extend the house so that it can take in more bee hives since its a win win situation.
(the more the bee hives, the more honey produced)
one modern/standard wooden "top bar hive" which can produce around 30 to 50 kgs of honey per harvest costs between ($30 to $33)
as you can see in the pictures and in the video, i made research and found out that bees that are kept in the house tend to produce more honey compared to those in open places simply because bees are sensitive like we human beings, they don't want to be hit by strong sunshine, heavy rain fall, too much noise etc which affects honey quality and production, thats why i decided to build for them a house insteady of putting hives in open place.
In Western Uganda we have two harvesting seasons, (late Febuary/early March and late August/early September) depends one's targetting, as i mentioned above here in Fort Portal we are blessed with good climate.
around my bee project, there's alot of trees, flowers and other plants where bees collect nector without having to travel miles in search of food and nector like in other places.
Every donation you give here matters alot, thank you so much
