SG$2,595.00raised of SG$1,000.00 goal goal
Mr Ng & Mdm Chua are an elderly couple living in a rental flat in Chinatown. Me and Ying first visited their unit in May 2021 and noticed that through the years, Mdm Chua had developed a habit of picking up discarded items from the thrash bin under her block and storing it in their home. With time, the rubbish pile grew so much that their entire home was filled with these items (includes empty bottles, used food containers, packaging, etc.). Due to the stench from the rotting food and also their neighbour's rising concerns over the cleanliness and pest situation, many organisations have been trying to help them resolve this issue. For years, the couple refused help as they were so used to their living conditions. Thankfully, when we visited them in May 2021, they were finally open to the idea of having us help to clear up the clutter in their home!
With the current COVID-19 regulations, a two-person limit has been placed upon all social interaction (including social/community work), and that has made the work extremely challenging with a shortage of manpower. During this time, we are also extremely grateful to have a pest control company sponsor the couple's home with pest control treatment.
In the past 2 days (1 Nov & 2 Nov), we have successfully cleared out all the rubbish that was in the unit and also cleaned the unit thoroughly. In the next few days, we will be giving their home a fresh coat of paint and replacing some of their furniture (bed, refrigerator, daily necessity). Our work is still in progress and we plan to complete the home cleaning by Friday (5 Nov 2021).
This campaign aims to raise $1000 SGD to fund the expenses required to improve their current living conditions. If the fund exceeds the proposed amount, it will be channeled directly to the couple to help with their living expenses.
About our beneficiaries:
Mr & Mdm Ng are a couple in their late 60s who have no children. Mdm Ng is a cheerful lady who loves to laugh and chat and Mr Ng is a man of few words who loves spending his time on his bed watching tv. In the past 2 days, as they see help coming their way, we would often hear them telling us "Gam xia" (thank you in Hokkien). Sometimes, when your life is in a mess, you just need a helping hand (or in this case, many helping hands!). Your donations will definitely go a long way in giving them a chance to have a better living condition. Thank you for your time and contribution. In the words of Mr & Mdm Ng... GAM XIA!
