Campaign Story
To all the kind-hearted people. We are reaching out to you to find it in your hearts to aid him in his struggles against his heart disease.
Miguel was diagnosed with Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) with severe Mitral Stenosis. Meaning his heart is not functioning properly because of the grave damage to the heart valves. Left untreated this can be fatal with a 50-50 chance of survival in 2 years or less. He is in need of a life saving open-heart surgery to replace the damaged valves of his heart as soon as possible. It is a very expensive, almost impossible to afford medical procedure for a poverty-stricken family man in his 40’s living in a country with little to no national health services.
650, 000 pesos is the cost of the procedure only, not including blood products, other important medical devices, professional and handling fees and any eventual complications of the surgery. We asked help from the Phillippine Charity (PCSO) organization and can only hope for the best. Even then they will not cover the full expenses of the treatment
Miguel is constantly struggling with the symptoms of his disease. Not being able to breathe properly together with the persisting fatigue makes his everyday life very limited and difficult. Every night he sleeps in a chair, sitting, as he has difficulty breathing when lying down. Because of his disease he is not able to find work and support his children, aged 11 and 13 who still need their father. He is also unable to help his mother who is also ailing, diabetes and kidney failure.
Currently, while waiting for surgery Miguel is living on medications. He needs to take 9 tablets a day (which costs a lot for someone who has no income). Most of the time he can't afford them and has to leave it be. In times he gets attacks, which could be fatal, he would just perform first aid on himself and hope for the best as he can’t afford going to a hospital.
This surgery will save his life. The new heart valve lasts a lifetime. The sooner he gets the surgery the higher the chance he survives the procedure itself and makes a full recovery. Without it, all he can do is wait until he succumbs to the disease. Which won’t take very long in his case.
Miguel is a good, hard working, family-oriented man who loves music and wishes to live life further, be together with his children and see them grow up. Life is hard at the rock bottom for Miguel, but with your help, even the minimum, a latte at a coffee shop’s worth of donation will bring him closer to staying alive and being with his children. With your help, he can have this chance at life, just like you and me. Please, may you find it in your heart and give Miguel this chance.

Only paying up cash up front can get him examined sooner
Update posted by Sakura Usui at 04:49 pmIt seems that the only way to speed up the 2D echo examination for Miguel is through paying up the full amount. Should Miguel afford to pay the full amount, 4,220 pesos, he may get a schedule in 5 days.Otherwise the only option that he can afford right now is. . . . .
