Thank you for taking the time to even consider helping me out! My name is Inge and I have always had a heart to serve and help others, and in January 2017 I have the incredible opportunity to volunteer for 3 months in Wahiawa, Oahu.
I am 21 years old and I'm part of a very (...VERY) big, loving family - two older sisters and five adopted younger siblings - and although my parents are very supportive, they are financially unable to assist me on this trip (especially since the South African Rand to U.S Dollar exchange rate is so much). As a South African, I am constantly surrounded by poverty and people who are less fortunate then me and this has ignited a fire inside of me that so desperately wants to help others.
Surfing The Nations is a non-profit, Christian organisation in Hawaii run entirely by volunteers. It's situated in Wahiawa (an area is known for drug abuse, alcohol, violence and the sex industry) and its mission is to see the the youth and families in the area live a life that's free from the traps of alcohol, drug abuse and darkness - and to bring transformations to buildings, reputations and lives. The volunteers go on outreaches, feed the hungry and just embrace the community with the love of Jesus.
The $6000 would entail: 1) $3000 internship fee for the volunteering program, 2) $2000 transportation to get from South Africa to Hawaii and 3) $1000 for my food during the duration of my stay (the organisation is run solely by volunteers so no food is provided).
Any additional funds raised will be donated to Ithemba Lam Baby Haven (a non-profit temporary place of safety for abandoned babies that my mom started in 2009).
Any help that you can give will be gratefully received.
Thank you so much. It is all so greatly appreciated.
