Help Me Volunteer in Peru!

Hello friends!! Caroline Ammon here!

If you’re reading this then you probably know me. If you don’t yet, I hope you soon will. You may have known me all my life, the shy farm girl, the gymnast, the debater. You may know me through my mother's little shop, Sogno della Terra, in Columbus, IN. For those of you who don’t know, I have an immense passion for foreign travel, foreign language, cultural understanding and development, and so much more. So so much more. Back to the above mentioned coffee shop, Sogno della Terra, the time I spent in that space was easily some of the most precious in my life. Through the people I have met there and through the conversations I have had there, I have within me the determination to make change and to spread love to those that need it most. As the next chapter in my life, I can be found at IUPUI working towards completing my Bachelors in Anthropology with a minor in Global and International Studies. I can be found at Indy House of Pilates working as an instructor there. My life is moving in the right directions and I have by my side the best people to help me along but with summer coming and the availability it brings, I want to step out into the world. I will be spending the month of June volunteering in Peru, working to support the women of the Cusco area who have suffered from abuse and domestic violence and give them better opportunities through providing them with safety, education, emotional healing and companionship. I will be working with lovevolunteers.org in June and I need to raise enough money for program fees, transportation, and all the preparations and gear.

These types of experiences are ones that ultimately change us for the better and teach us so much about ourselves, the world, and the power of compassion. I would be so thankful to anyone who is willing to help me with this project and make it possible for me to have the opportunity working with women and children to bring them better circumstances. Anything helps, no matter how small. Thank you for your help and support!

About the Project:

Violence on women is incredibly high in Latin America, especially within the Andean regions. The mission of this program is to support the women of the Cusco area who have suffered from abuse. The Women's Empowerment program aims to assist these women who have suffered domestic violence, offering them a refuge to escape the violence and a safe place to re-group and plan for a better life. Many of the women in the shelters have children and are in need of emotional healing, compassion and companionship. These shelters are understaffed and underfunded, needing volunteers to provide education, companionship, skill development and childcare. The project I will be participating in is through lovevolunteers.org.
