Hello everyone, and thank you so much for taking the time to read my thingy!

I have had what seem like unreachable aspirations forever and ever and ever and ever and...evah.  And because both of my parents are disabled :( my Dad is a totally disabled Vietnam war veteran and is the reason I am able to go to schoo at all, and Mom suffered a herniated disc after a poorly assembled stone bench collapsed), I had to wait a few years to start going to college and formally training myself in the Theahtah.

My last couple of semesters at Austin Community College have been spent in one of the most interesting and weirdy cities, with some of the most amazing student actors and professors I will ever work with. This Summer, the ACC Drama Department is planning a study-abroad program for young artists searching for an in-depth, right-under-your-nose taste of classical theatre.

In the grand scheme of things, my family and I aren't wealthy people. But I do have the bare necessities (cut to Baloo, Look for the...), and am very grateful.  I have food to eat (most of the time, who doesn't love oatmeal?), and a bed to sleep in, books to read, and friends to laugh with, and while I do live hand to mouth pretty regularly, I'm so very grateful to be (relatively) healthy and happy.

I haven't travelled much in my 25 years, yettt (aside from road-trips as a kiddie, we were an Army family, but never moved, just drove everywhere!). But I have been lucky enough to travel to Chicago and NYC as an adult to taste some of their theatre ($20 student tickets for the win!) But the idea of going to one of the oldest living cities and walking into Shakes's Globe would make me, just, openly weep. And backstage? Fuggitaboutit. Cause that's what I would get to do (among sooo many others, 9 shows, backstage tours of them all. A trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon, to see where the baby Shakes lived!) It would be life-changing, it would restore my optimism and confidence in myself and my art, and trying to just accept not going without a fight just won't do!

Not only would I be giving regular photo/blog updates on the trip, but would also be sharing my reactions to the new things I learn, the people I meet, and the glory of soaking up a foreign country like a dry biscuit.

Thank you so much for taking the time, I am so grateful to you all.

Love,

  Katy

How many godly creatures are there here?

How beauteous mankind is! O, brave new world,

that has such people in't."
