hello im june newland,im 57 and live in the northeast of england.last november my son who had just started his new job weeks before come home on a cold tuesday night at 3.50pm went upstaires to get changed then come down to pop to our local shop to collect his monthly gun mag,he was a keen shooter, and had helped northumberland land owners keep vermon at bay,on this night i was due to go on my nightshift in a care home.i did start and wonder why john was so long at the shop.it usualy took him less than 10 minuits.i thought oh he must have got chatting to someone.at 4.45pm my door buest open it was my husband home from work, he said what the hell is going on out there.i said where out the front he said..we both run upstaires for a better view out of our bedroom window.my god there was police everywhere..it seemed like there had been an accident or something.we wayched looking up and down the main road.police/paramedics/ambulance/even the press were there.in the back of my mind im thinking wheres my john..john is my eldesy son 36yrs he has a little boy just 5 years old kai thomas, but things didnt work out with kais mother, so john still lived at home with us. time was really getting on so i had to get ready for work..then at 6.20pm there was the most horrendous bang bang on my door,my husband answered, it was the police 2 of them are you mrs newland one officer asked me,yes i said june newland.do you have a son john...john averill..yes i said.well we are very sorry but john has died, we recieved an emergency call at 4.30pm to say a woman had hit a pedestrian.the police were only able to trace me through a bank card my john was carrying in my name.he didnt have a bank account so i let him use this one for his wages.the woman who hit and killed my son was never charged with anything at his inquest which was 6 months later the coroner said im sorry and with lack of evidence i have to put this down to accidental death.my family are devistated we will never ever get over this,we have petitioned about this very busy and dangerous road to no avail.we will carry on the fight to have this  stretch of road made safe.anyone who wishes to read about this can do so by googling duncan john averill/or we need zion tce/blaydon bank made safe to cross.you dont expect your child to die before you,so you just dont make provissions do you.we had a funeral to organise, and flowers to sort.and little to no money,it was hard, very hard.i think with help from  kind public.we can take away some of the burdon families have to face when a sibbling dies.i thank you all for reading my story and hope you can help me in my quest to help others, every little no mater how much, will help
