Hi, my name is Gerda Kocsis. I am a double bass player from Budapest, Hungary and I am currently finishing my Bachelor degree at the Liszt Academy of Music in Peter Kubina's class.
I have been recently accepted to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. This is an opportunity I never imagined I would have, and I am really excited to move abroad to study at one of the best music institutions in the world. The thought that I will learn from an amazing teacher, like Thomas Martin is still hard to believe. A big dream of mine just came true and I am very thankful for it.
Unfortunately, I am not in a position to afford living in the UK, and that is why I am asking for your help. I have already secured some funding: a partial scholarship from RBC and a private sponsorship.which I am super thankful for. Although I am trying to work as hard as I can ( teaching in a music school, orchestra jobs etc. ) , moving abroad is not cheap. Your support would help me fund the moving fees, plane tickets and additional college, langauge exam, living and course related costs.
If you would like to support me, either financially or just with words of encouragement, it would be hugely comforting and greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much,
A little about my studies…
I started learning the piano first, when I was 7 years old, and through the years I realized I would love to be a part of an orchestra so I started the bass at the age of 12. After a year I became the double bassist of the Youth Orchestra. We won the first prize 2 times in Belgium , Neerpelt at the International Orchestra Competition. In 2014 we also won first prize at the Hungarian Orchestra Contest. After being accepted in the Leo Weiner Conservatory , I got the oppurtinity to play Faure's After a dreamwith the Budapest Strings Orchestra. I won the first prize in the National Double Bass Competition in 2017 and the special award for the best performance of the obligatory piece. The same year I got accepted to the Liszt Academy of Music, where I am currently studying. In 2018 I got the concert invitation from the Divertimento Chamber Orchestra to play the Dittersdorf Concerto with them and the same year I became the double bassist of the orchestra. I had great experiences playing with fantastic conductors like Kobayashi Kenichiro, Dennis Russel Davis and Pinchas Steinberg and playing amazing programmes with them like Mahler, Brahms , Beethoven, Bernstein, Csajkovszkij symphonies and Debussy La Mer. In September of 2019 , I participated and won first prize at the Dittersdorf International Double Bass Competition in Slovakia.
