Help Me Replant Trees

I have lived in my house for 10 years, one of the main reasons we purchased our 2 bedroom 1 bath house was for the beautiful back yard.  The house itself is cute but small and living in California your yard is like another room and our back yard was perfect until.... a few months ago the house behind us sold and the new neighbors decided to cut down just about every tree in their yard (12) in all.  Unfortunately all but one of the trees were on their side of the fence so I watched as each tree was taken down I lost more and more of my beautiful back yard and more and more of my privacy.  Now when I look out from my deck I see their house and their yard instead of trees.  Here's the problem, we have been hit pretty hard finacially and the last thing we have money for is to redo our back yard.  I am asking for your help so I can replant some trees along the back fence and build a trellis for some vines over our patio, that should help us regain some privacy and block out some of the blaring sun and wind that the hole in the tree line has left.
