8 months ago - I had my first Gall Bladder attack. It was not fun! Excruciating pain in my right side, burning sensation in my chest, back pain like you cant believe, and vomiting for 2 hours non stop!

I had to wake up my fiance and tell him i needed to go to the hospital! I could not handle the pain any longer, i felt like i was dying inside..

Unfortunately for us here in South Africa - having a medial aid is not possible for everyone as they are so damn expensive. And we do not have health care etc. So unfortunately for me, having no health insurance, we headed off to the nearest government hospital. Was i in for a shock! Having never been inside a government hospital before, what an eye opener! I have always been a healthy individual, so never needed to go this route before..

Firstly - because we have so many South Africans without Medical Aid, the hospitals are packed. So sitting in extreme pain, waiting to be seen by someone in triage to establish how critical I am, was a nightmare. Eventually was seen by someone and then sent to casualty to be seen by a doctor, as this stage I cannot even walk i am in so much pain. David is now pushing me in a wheelchair. I get told its an ulcer, given some meds and an injection for the pain, eventually sent home. This whole ordeal took about 9 hours!

Secondly, the hospital is filthy, so i am so worried about hygiene etc. But no one seems to care..

This was the start of 8 months of back and forth trips to the hospital with each visit getting worse and worse. Sitting waiting for 9 hours at a time, in agony. Being admitted for between 2-5 days each time, going for ultra sounds, and scans etc which you end up getting left sitting on your stretcher for hours in a cold passage with no blankets or pillows etc. By the 2nd trip, they established i was in need of having a gall bladder removal due to gall stones. They can only schedule my op for June as there is such a waiting list at government hospitals. But honestly i cannot wait that long as the pain each week is too bad and in addition, seeing the other patients there who have developed such bad cases of infection from unsterile after care.. some have been in hospital for 6-8 months! With colostomy bags etc.

So I started looking at alternatives, and if i had to go have it done privately at a private hospital, i would need to raise R100 000 (about $6200 or €5600 or £5000) and I can get it done at the end of April in a private hospital.

That’s how much it’s going to cost me so if anybody would be willing to contribute towards my funding page so that I can ensure that I get my gall bladder removed successfully and risk of infection drastically reduced, ASAP - I would really appreciate your help.
