I am a young South African woman who had one of my dreams come true when I was offered a place of study in the 2017/2018 Master of Business Administration (MBA) class by the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School on 28 April 2017.
My passion is the development of women and education in my country. It is my firm belief that to empower a woman is to empower a generation, having been raised in a rural community by a cohort of women. It is also a strongly held belief of mine that education is one of the most powerful tools with which an individual can be empowered as I have seen this play out in my own life.
I believe that in enrolling with the Oxford Saïd Business School, I will be exposed to individuals, businesses and communities that will help in equipping me with the necessary tools to effect sustainable change in my community based on what they have experienced in their own communities.
Further, with my background in the financial services sector, I also have an interest in exploring some modules related to impact investing during my time at Oxford and how a balance can be realistically achieved between the needs of investors and the realities of the organisations to be funded.
The academic fees for the year are £52 000 while accommodation and living costs are estimated at between £12 028 to £17 450. I have anticipated my living costs at £13 000 so that brings my total costs, including tuition to £65 000.
I have managed to raise £10 000 through a Said Business School Foundation scholarship that I received from the university as a result of my strong application and interview. To date I have also paid the deposit of £7 300 to secure my spot on the programme. I therefore require your assistance in raising the outstanding balance of £47 700 by 1 August 2017.
Your contribution towards funding this year of study will allow me to achieve not only my personal goals, but also allow me to make a meaningful contribution to my country and continent.
Thank you in advance.
