Hi! Thank you for visiting my Crowdfunding site!
Who am I?
My name is Daniel Arauz Naranjo, I'm a biologist from Costa Rica working on the Recue Center for Endangered Marine Species (www.cremacr.org). My main focus is on the conservation of the critically endangered Hawksbill sea turtle.
This animal is specially threatened in the Eastern Pacific (EP) ocean, where illegal poaching an unsustainable fisheries practices almost brought this sea turtle to regional extinction. Now, thanks to the efforts of many people, there is an estimate of 500 hundred females left in the whole region, with conservation efforts increasing in every country in the area.
I have been working with a small population of hawksbill sea turtles that feeds and grows in the coastal waters of Costa Rica for the past two years. My main goal is to determine the area that these sea turtles are using on an every day basis, this way I can present national authorities a detailed map of the region highlighting the areas that need to be protected and managed properly.
Earlier this year, I was selected as part of the new cohort of Nat Geo Photo Ark EDGE Fellows, this project funded by the Zoological Society of London and the National Geographic Society aims to support conservation efforts of endangered species all around the globe. With their help, my project will have basic funding for two years, allowing me to gather enough data to complete my objectives!
Now I need your help!!
My research has just been selected to be presented as a poster during the next Students Conference on Conservation Science to be held at Cambridge, London, from 26-28 March 2019. This will represent a great opportunity to show my work to important conservationists and bring the costa rican hawksbill sea turtles on the international spotlight!
I am asking for $1100 to cover travel expenses to this conference, the money will be used in the following way:
$800 - Flight ticket roundtrip Costa Rica - London
$105 - Conference fee
$195 - Accommodation at St. Catharine's College, Cambridge.
For every donation above $100, I will be sending the donor a special gift! You will be receiving one of ten A4 sized, water-color painting of a hawksbill made by myself (they will be numbered). Once the donation is confirmed, I will personally get in touch with you to arrange mailing options.
