So, it's time for an adventure! Those of you who know me well will know I've not travelled far outside of the UK ever! At 41 I have decided it is high time this was changed, but at the same time I want to make a difference! I've applied for and been accepted on a scheme in Bali which really changes the lives of children within the community in Tianyar, a traditional fishing village. Established in 2008, the centre is 100% run and owned by the locals, it has been developed with assistance of volunteers from around the world and is a non-profit organisation.

I will be teaching English for free. The children attend the classes to further progress and develop their confidence and conversational skills. Although English is taught as standard within government run schools, the lack of facilities and an old fashioned curriculum means children lack the support and resources they need. In a developing country and economy such as Bali the ability to converse in English will provide life changing opportunities for the children of this small, rural village.

The experience will also be an invaluable one for myself, not only personally but professionally! I can only imagine the new teaching and learning strategies I will develop as part of this scheme, ready to bring back to my teaching in the UK.

I am funding as much of the trip as I can manage myself, however flights are expensive...so if you feel like you can contribute any amount, no matter how small, I would be extremely thankful.
