Campaign Story
Hello everyone! I am Govinda "Princess" Sanglay, a 2eyear Bachelor of Music, Major in Music Education Emphasis in Philippine Music student at the Philippine Women's University (PWU). I am among the university delegates from our performing arts group PWU INDAYOG Gong Ensemble who will be joining the 2nd Southeast Asia Music Education Exchange (SEAMEX) in Thailand Cultural Center on August 24-26, 2018.
This much anticipated event is endorsed by the Southeast Asia Directors of Music (SEADOM) and the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) as it aims to bring together music, institutions artist business, students and other stakeholders of music education in the region. Our university participation includes a delegation of music professors and our ensemble under Prof. Lilymae F. Montano.
As such, I am reaching out to raise funds to support my participation in the event to cover expenses from August 22-28 which are specified in the attached image.
I will be deeply grateful for any support as this will not only enable me to join the said event but will also help me take a small step closer to achieving my aspiration of becoming an advocate of Philippine music through research and performance.
PWU INDAYOG GONG ENSEMBLE
The Indayog Gong Ensemble is a performing group of the Philippine Women’s University School of Music. The ensemble aims to promote both traditional and modern Filipino music using gongs and bamboos. Unique of its kind, the ensemble is conceived as a gong orchestra to showcase the performance of new creative works for Philippine music instruments as well as feature the music of various cultural communities in the country. The PWU Indayog Gong Ensemble plays regularly at university concerts that feature works of National Artist for Music, Lucrecia R. Kasilag who is an exponent of fusing the East and West idiom. Their first international performance was last year’s Southeast Asia Music Exchange held in Malaysia. They have performed in national and international stage such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines for PASINAYA Festivals and Concert at the Park. The ensemble is also active in conducting workshop-demonstrations and seminars in various schools around Metro Manila such as Ateneo, International School Manila and De La Salle University. The PWU Indayog Gong Ensemble, formerly Gongs of PWU, was organized in 2006 by Dr. Kristina Benitez and Dr. Felicidad A. Prudente in connection with the Ethnomusicology program of the School of Music with Prof. Lilymae Franco-Montano as current director.
