21st July 2018
Huge thank you to everyone who donated online & everyone who bought tickets for the raffle. Have raised €500 !
This time next week I will be in Lebanon :)
July 2018
Just 16 days now till I return to Lebanon. I have been amazed at the amount of donations I have received. I have collected almost half of the stationary items.. still want to have about another 20 pencil cases to take out.
I have collected/bought a variety of small toys enough so that each child has their own.
The number of children has risen to around 45 now so will need to head back to ikea for more cups & plates !!
Huge thank you to Clare Kirkman who is organising the raffle with an amazing variety of prizes..holidays, pamper sessions, dinners...draw to be held on Saturday 21st at 5pm, still time to buy 😉
Thank you again for all the support xxx
JUNE 2018
Not long now until I return to visit these children, I am busy collecting things to take out with me. So far I have over 40 fidget spinners ( they went crazy for the few I took last time ) , I have bought each child a cup so they will no longer be sharing one bottle between them all. Am now collecting stationary pencil cases, pencils and other such things.
Will keep updating xx
MAY 2018
UPDATE
My flights are now booked for my 2nd visit out to the orphanage. I am going to be spending 3 weeks with the children during my summer holidays from school.
Please do what you can to help.
APRIL 2018
UPDATE: I have just returned from my first visit, an amazing yet heart breaking and challenging week.
The children each have many different needs and problems some of which we were able to help with while out there. I have begun planning for my next trip to help meet more of their needs.
The lack of stimulation and support is a big problem and this will be my main focus for my summer visit in July 2018.
They spend most of the day in one room, they have very little in the way of toys or entertainment. Before our visit they had limited beds, water & electricity. Food is very basic and they rely soley on donations from local shops and charities.
Each child has 1 day outfit, a set of pyjamas and footwear is a big problem something I want to change.
Over the next 3 months I hope to raise enough funds to travel out for one month, work with these children helping to develop their minds and social skills. I want to be able to buy clothes , toys and equipment for each child.
Please donate what you can even 1e will buy a pair of flipflops or a plastic cup.
Thank you.
MARCH 2018
I learnt about these children in Lebanon through a friend who works with the charity Dental Mavericks. The focus is to help an orphanage, home to 35 children all displaced by the war in Syria.
There are around 35 children (with more than a hundred waiting for a place) , their home is little more than a shelter, with poor electricty. They have no beds to sleep on and little in the way of clothing and bedding .
Each child has lost one or both of their parents due to the war in Syria and have been left with nothing. They have not only suffered the trauma of war but many have also suffered some form of abuse.
I am going to visit initially for one week and want to show them people do care. I want to be able to show them ways to fill their days, occupy their time, distract them a little from the atrocities around them and help them develop skills to improve their lives and living conditions.
I am looking for help to fund my trip out to Lebanon, to help with my travel expenses and to buy the items I want to take. I plan to take with me books, stationary, craft materials, games , toys and other such things.
My first visit is planned for the end of this month ( March 2018 )
Every donation made how ever small will make a big difference to these children.
Each donation will help me to help them .
Thank you
