Hi! I will be making a life changing trip in early 2016. Life changing not just for me, but also I hope for the animals (donkeys, horses, cats, dogs) who end up in the ACE (Animal Care in Egypt) hospital. Horses and donkeys over there are working beasts of burden who are brought in for free veterinary care at the hospital, usually with injuries that would be unthinkable here in the managed pastures of England. Basic equine equipment like halters and bridles are expensive and animal owners are generally very poor, so they use whatever they can get; any old chunk of metal will pass as a bit for a horse or donkey's sensitive mouth. They cannot afford to stop working for a sick or injured animal, so the horses and donkeys are pushed to work regardless of open wounds under their tack. Simple things like Vetrap for bandaging wounds, so cheap here, cannot even be purchased in Egypt so the vets at ACE have to resort to using duct tape when donated supplies run out. Surgeries are often performed on mattresses on the ground by vets working day in day out to help these animals. I will be joining a team of people to go over for one week to help out in any way we can. That may be assisting surgeries, dressing wounds, looking after the in-patients, offering healing treatments to the animals, or going out to the streets to administer first aid to any animals we find in distress. In general just helping out in any way we possibly can! £500 is all I need to cover my flights, accommodation and meals for the week. Back in my corporate days I would have paid this myself in a heartbeat and probably barely noticed the expense. Now, as a self-employed therapist, £500 is a bigger consideration, but I feel I have to go and do this regardless so I'm reaching out for help raising the money. Any surplus funds raised will be used to buy the essentials (like Vetrap!) to take with me, or donated directly to Animal Care Egypt when my luggage allowance is maxed out. Check out ACE's website for more details on the amazing work they do! http://www.ace-egypt.org.uk/
