HELP ME SUPPORT SYRIAN REFUGEES IN GREECE

Hello, I'm Anushka. I'm a clinical nutritionist from Adelaide, South Australia. In August 2017 I'm going to Chios, Greece to help with the Syrian refugee crisis. With the Syrian Civil War reaching it's 6th year we are faced with the largest humanitarian crisis since World War II. There are more than 4.9 million Syrian refugees, with 6.1 million internally displaced. On the island of Chios there are an estimated 3,782 displaced asylum seekers in severely overcrowded camps with very poor living conditions.

I will be part of the medical team, comprised of doctors, nurses, nutritionists and natural therapy practitioners, which will provided free healthcare, nutritional supplements, food and general care and support to those affected by the crisis in Syria.

I will be going over with Involvment Volunteers International who have partnered with local response teams and support networks in Chios to provide immediate crisis response, medical and nutrition support for vulnerable groups such as pregnant woman, breastfeeding mothers and children.

I will be assisting with boat arrivals (providing warm clothes, blankets and food), working at the Women's Centre offering health assessments, spend time talking with the women, providing activities such as art and craft, some Nutrition education, working in the children's house and participating in food distribution, providing nourishing meals and tea service.

I am looking to raise $2000 in donations to help cover the cost of supplies needed in the camps. While we are in Greece, the team and I will support local business when purchasing to donate to the refugees as a part of our care, including the following: fresh fruit and vegetables, first aid and medical supplies, nutritional supplements such as whey proteins and vitamins, blankets, clothing, footwear and hygiene products.
