As some of you know, I will be leaving the US to spend 10 months volunteering in Israel beginning late this August. The program I will be volunteering with is called Ma’ase Olam, Israel Service Fellows. Ma’ase Olam was established in 2004 for the purpose of advancing the value of volunteering and leadership programs for young volunteers working primarily to close the achievement gap in Israel’s education system. Israel Service Fellows is fully committed to building an inclusive and equitable Israel. Fellows provide educational opportunities to Israelis from many backgrounds as part of our commitment to all of Israel’s people. Rather than service being one small part of a long list of activities, this program places social activism and service at its center. I hope that during my time in Israel, I am able to both teach and learn. I want to come home knowing more about Israeli society, culture, and history as well as the Hebrew language. I plan to learn about the economic hardships that some people of Israel face and how such disadvantages keep them from having the same opportunities as those more fortunate. My goal is to leave Israel knowing that I was able to pass on my knowledge to people who can use it to better their lives and futures. I will live, work and volunteer in Israeli communities and I know the experience will not only change my life, but also those I meet along the way. Bring on the energy, the fresh perspective, and the culture shock. I am ready for all of it but I need your help. I am quitting my job and leaving everything behind for 10 months. For this reason, your donation towards my time in Israel is much needed and greatly appreciated. I know how much you support my enthusiasm for this life-changing adventure. Its easy to contribute right here on my page.
