HELP ME HELP ORPHANS IN COSTA RICA, 2013

Hola Everyone!

My name is Bikram Shekhawat from India. Recently I have been selected and accepted into a program hosted by the Global Volunteer Network, based in New Zealand, to be a Volunteer for an orphanage in Costa Rica. Although an incredible opportunity, one I have been dreaming about for years, it is rather costly--but for a wonderful reason! I never had a good time in my life when i was a kid and since then  i dicided to always work for children no matter what it takes. This is our world we need to step forward to help them and this is how people become powerful. Even a small step taken by us can spark some happiness in these orpahans lives which can help them to be a better person in life.

REASONS TO VOLUNTEER IN COSTA RICA

* APPROXIMATELY 4,301,712 PEOPLE LIVE IN COSTA RICA

* POVERTY IN COSTA RICA IS ESPECIALLY OBSERVABLE IN RURAL AREAS

* 2,80,000 CHILDREN ON SCHOOL AGE ARE NOT IN SCHOOLS

* 9% OF BOYS AGED 5 TO 14 ARE ECONOMICALLY ACTIVE MOSTLY BECAUSE THEIR FAMILIES DEPEND ON THE MONEY THEY GENERATE

* APPROXIMATELY 36,000 CHILDREN IN COSTA RICA ARE ORPHANS

* MANY OF THEM RUN THE RISK OF ENDING UP ON CRIME RIDDEN STREETS

* UNFORTUNATELY, HIV IS ALSO COMMON AMONGST YOUNG CHILDREN WITH LIMITED TREATMENT OPTIONS.

HOW I WILL HELP

During my placement I will be caring for orphans, street children and abused children at an orphanage. I will take on the role of teacher and carer to the children. In order to complete this assignment I will be using my personal savings and I have been working hard to raise the funds needed to take up this opportunity to help others. I would appreciate any donations to enable me to take on the challenge of helping others in less fortunate circumstances than ourselves.

Prayers:

Although Iam looking forward to this trip, there are many spiritual and financial needs that must be met before i go. For this, I’ll need your help! First and foremost, your prayers and support are greatly appreciated as I prepare for my trip. Please pray for the children i will be teaching, the community in which i will be living, my safety and i truly appreciate your support!

School Supplies:

Since I will be teaching in an underprivileged elementary school i will be bringing all of my own school supplies. The school supplies i want to bring are notebooks for each child, construction paper, pencils, pencil sharpeners, crayons, and markers. I will be buying all of these supplies ourselves, so any donations would be greatly appreciated! 

Financial Support:

Of course, as with any trip, there are financial needs as well. I wish was capable of covering all of these expenses myself, but unfortunately iam not able to do so.. The program package for me to volunteer in the Costa Rica volunteer program for 8 weeks is US$2797. In addition, volunteers are asked to pay for their airfares, entry visa, vaccinations, and insurance. As you can see, volunteering does come at a cost. . A roundtrip plane tickets cost $1500 to $2000 approximately. Preparation for this trip also involves getting immunizations (roughly $200), traveler’s insurance ($200), and visas ($60). While in Costa Rica, I will need roughly $25 a week. We know these are large amounts, but every little bit helps.

CONCLUSION

This experience will not only give these children a chance at something they never had before, but it will be doing the same thing for me. And, lets be honest, my nature won't allow me to do or be anything else. If you help me to help these children, I promise you it won't be the last time I give all of myself for another human being, rather, I will find a way to do it every single day. It will mean the world to me if you would take a moment to realize the important of what It is I want to do for them, and that it is NOT for myself, but for the world out there that is struggling that we don't see when we sit on our recliners and watch our 42'' plasmas.
