Me and my partner, Steffen, are expecting our first child in November (due date 14th).
Since I learned I was going to be a mother, I could only imagine having a home birth in the comfort of our home (a lovely self built solid-wall 6 meter yurt). But the year progressed and the current world situation for worse. That affected our possibilities to make money, as well as all the improvements we had to make to our quality of life here on the farm to prepare for a cosy winter with our baby.
So due to the inability to cover for the midwive's expenses, I find myself considering a hospital birth. This makes me really anxious for many reasons... to help you understand why, this is my alternative: a 45 min drive to the nearest hospital, where, following covid-rules, my partner will not be allowed to be by my side, and I will be forced to wear a mask during my entire labour.
This will be a sacred and very special moment in my life. I do not want to be in a hospital surrounded by strangers, handled like a patient, forced to wear a mask and pressured into lots of unnecessary procedures that make birth faster. I also want to be able to breath freely, and in a familiar setting and environment surrounded by my loved ones and midwives.
In Portugal, home birth is not supported in any way by the health care system or any medical insurance company.
If you cannot help financially, we will be grateful for your support in any way, wether in sharing or sending positive thoughts for the birth and the three of us ❤️.
If you can, any amount will be welcome and it will go completely towards all of our midwive's expenses. We have two qualified and experienced midwives who are available for our birth, pending confirmation of payment which we haven't been able to do so far.
Blessings and gratitude for reading until the end 🙏
