I am Ana Carina Twano, an undergraduate student at the University of the Philippines Diliman. I was fortunate enough to get in the pool of entrepreneurs eligible for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Global Entrepreneurship Bootcamp to be held in Brisbane, Australia, this March 26-31.
Only around 50 to 70 people around the world are chosen to join this bootcamp every year, and it will be a once in a lifetime experience for me, as I will have the opportunity to pitch to global investors, mentors, and professors from MIT. I will be learning with people from different countries as well.
In order to join the bootcamp, I will be needing 100,000 pesos (2000 USD) to deposit by February 24. And 200,000 pesos (4000 USD) by March 3. This does not include travel and accommodations.
The learning that I will be able to acquire in the bootcamp is equivalent to one semester in MIT. Given the chance to go, I will dedicate in imparting what I learned in the bootcamp to all aspiring entrepreneurs in the country.
I hope you can help me. This opportunity will be beneficial not just for me, but also for those who are the potential community of my Startup, and for the other entrepreneurs in the Philippines. I am also willing to work for companies in exchange had they decided to take me in upon my graduation on June 2017.
About my startup:
There is an imbalance in the distribution of employment opportunity due to mismatch of supply and demand for skills, not only in the Philippines, but also around the world.
In my country, around 26 Million still live below the poverty line, of which 12 Million are living in extreme poverty.
There are generally three (3) main causes of poverty in the Philippines:
1. Lack of education
2. Unemployment (due to reasons such as job discrimination and lack of exposure to opportunities).
3. and lack of financial knowledge.
There is a promising and increasing demand for blue collar workers. In fact, by 2017, 40% of job growth and job opportunities will come from this sector.
What my startup does is to expose blue collared workers, those who are skilled in manual labors, to the current increasing demands for them worldwide. We create professional profiles for Blue collars in order for their skills to be marketed better.
This way, we give credibility, connection, and stable job for blue collars - the majority of people in the lower economy, and at the same time give convenience, reliability and safety to our customers of having the right blue collar for the right job.
