Hello! My name’s Alexis, and I need your help! You see, I was invited to the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Medicine, which is administered by Envision and partnered by George Mason University. NYLF gives high school students like me the amazing opportunity to get a taste of what a career in medicine is like during a nine day program held on college campuses each summer. Students even have the chance to get college credit for this conference through George Mason University! Each student invited to this program was picked based on academic excellence and a motivation for a professional career in medicine.
The only downside to this? The cost.
For one, tuition costs $3,495. On top of this, students must cover costs to get to the college campus (which unfortunately for me means a plane ticket across the country, which is anywhere from $300-$700). Additional expenses include a travel insurance plan ($140), the cost of the shuttle from the airport to the college campus ($80), and snacks/off-campus meals/other incidentals (at least $100).
But before you consider donating, you probably want to know a bit more about me. Well, for starters I’m a junior at The College of Southern Nevada High School, which means I take my usual high school classes, as well as actual college classes at CSN. I also take these college courses over the summer, so I can graduate with my associate’s degree of sciences the very same month that I will graduate from high school. I’m also a part of both my high school’s National Honor Society, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. After I graduate, I would like to continue my college education to get my doctorate in veterinary medicine. In order to do this, though, I need to take advantage of opportunities to continue to further my education and experience, such as this one.
Although along with this campaign I will also be conducting additional fundraising, my parents and I can’t afford tuition and the additional travel expenses on our own, so every dollar donated is much appreciated! Thank you so, so much in advance to anyone who donates!!
